The Clove is the aromatic, dry, fully grown, but unopened flower buds of the clove tree. The islands of Zanzibar, Pemba and Indonesia are the major producers of clove in the world. In India, clove is mostly grown in the hilly tracts of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka. Clove is in popular demand in India for spicing food items. But the production in India is much short of domestic requirements most of which is met through import from Zanzibar. The demand for cloves produced in India has been increasing in the domestic market. Tamil Nadu has topped in the list of production as Kanyakumari alone manufactures 700 tonnes of cloves annually. As the cloves have a high cost of production, demands are rising to grant subsidies or concessions offered to other crops for clove farming too. Cloves were usually sold in unbranded packages or in bulk. However, this trend is shifting as consumers demand branded and packaged products that validate the authenticity of the spice, where labels communicate important information about the ingredients used. Therefore, the growing demand across the world, aided by the rising consumption, may lead to the steady growth of the market over the forecast period. Cloves are one of the highly prized spices, widely recognized all over the world for their medicinal and culinary qualities. The increased disposable income of consumers in developed countries, coupled with the enhanced consumption of natural products, may drive the market for cloves during the forecast period.

The demand for cloves produced in India has been increasing in the domestic market.
